ARMENIA near Caspian sea is landlocked and surrounded by Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia – is with 97% christian population has nominal presence of Hindu. Before being converted to Christianity in 301 AD Aremenians too were pagans and worshipped various deities. While Hinduism may not be a widely practiced religion in Armenia, the presence of Hindus and Hindu temples adds a unique dimension to the country’s cultural fabric.

The coexistence of different religious communities in Armenia contributes to the country’s pluralistic identity and enriches its social and cultural landscape.

Though precise figures are not readily available, it is estimated that there are several hundred Hindus living- approximately 4000 in Armenia. Many of them are expatriates or students who have come to Armenia for various purposes such as education, work, or business. The Hindu community in Armenia is diverse, comprising individuals from different regions of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and other countries where Hinduism is practiced.

While the number of Hindu temples in Armenia is relatively small, there are a few temples that serve as important religious and cultural centers for the Hindu community. These temples provide a space for Hindus to come together, worship, celebrate festivals, and maintain their cultural traditions.

1. Yerevan Hindu Temple

The Yerevan Hindu Temple, located in the capital city of Yerevan, is the most prominent Hindu temple in Armenia. It serves as a focal point for the Hindu community and hosts various religious ceremonies, cultural events, and festivals throughout the year. The temple provides a serene and peaceful environment for worship and meditation, attracting both local Hindus and visitors from other parts of Armenia.

2. Gyumri Hindu Temple

Gyumri, the second-largest city in Armenia, is also home to a Hindu temple. While smaller in size compared to the Yerevan Hindu Temple, the Gyumri Hindu Temple plays a significant role in catering to the spiritual needs of the Hindu community in the region. It offers a place for prayer, spiritual guidance, and community gatherings.

3. Other Hindu Temples

In addition to the Yerevan and Gyumri Hindu Temples, there may be smaller prayer halls or private spaces where Hindus gather for worship in different parts of Armenia. These places may not be as well-known or accessible to the general public, but they still serve as important centers for religious and cultural activities within the Hindu community.
